19th Anniversary of the September 11 Attacks

Washington, D.C. (September 11, 2020) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:

It was 19 years ago today, on September 11, that terrorists attacked our nation in a vicious and cowardly assault, killing nearly 3,000 men and women. We will never forget the tragic events of that day or the victims and the families of those who perished. Likewise, we will always remember and honor the heroes — those who responded, cleaned up and rebuilt the World Trade Center and our Pentagon. While many fled, they raced toward the disaster, risked their lives and many suffered debilitating health issues due to hazardous materials exposure. Our memorials to that day and our people are fitting and solemn structures. Equally so, the potential of our nation of unity in the face of challenge, courage in the face of the unknown, and resurgence in the face of loss are living memorials which can continue to guide us.

On behalf of myself, General Secretary-Treasurer Armand E. Sabitoni, and the entire LIUNA General Executive Board, we remember those lost on September 11 and share our sincere gratitude with those who responded with such courage and strength to the terrible attacks.
