Statement of LIUNA on Restoration of Collective Bargaining Rights for US Department of Veterans Affairs Employees

“Workers will continue to have a voice on the job and the power to speak up for themselves and those they serve”

Washington, D.C. (March 30, 2026) — Brent Booker, General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), made the following statement regarding the U.S. District Court ruling restoring collective bargaining rights for Veterans Affairs employees:

Last year’s termination of collective bargaining rights for Veterans Affairs employees was a slap in the face for those who care for the men and women who have served our nation. Now, with a preliminary injunction blocking the termination, thousands of VA workers will continue to have a voice on the job and the power to speak up for themselves and those they serve.

We are proud that LIUNA Locals 1322, 1029, and 572 were joined by the United Nurses Association of California, the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses, IBEW Local 415, and Machinists Local 1998 in legal action to restore these basic rights.

When we stand together, we can win. LIUNA will continue to defend the fundamental right of VA employees to join a union.
