Statement of LIUNA General President Brent Booker on the Supreme Court's Decision Allowing Termination of Temporary Protected Status

Washington, D.C. (June 25, 2026) — Brent Booker, General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, released the following statement today on the termination of Temporary Protected Status:

"The Supreme Court’s decision allowing the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian families will have devastating consequences for working families, our economy and our communities. In addition, it opens the door for the Trump Administration to end TPS protections for immigrants as legal challenges continue.

For decades, TPS recipients have followed the law, worked hard, paid taxes, raised families and helped build America. Many are proud LIUNA members whose skill and dedication are indispensable to our industry. Removing these trained and experienced members will weaken our workforce, harm local communities, separate families, and force many people back to countries where they face violence, persecution or worse.

Congress must finally do its job. Temporary protections are no substitute for permanent solutions. Congress has the constitutional authority to pass immigration reform that provides a permanent pathway to citizenship for the workers who have earned the right to remain in the country they have helped build.

The Supreme Court has spoken. Congress must now act. It is long past time to end this cycle of uncertainty and deliver the permanent solution America’s workers, families and economy deserve.”
