Washington, D.C. (August 24, 2025) — Brent Booker, General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, released the following statement today in reaction to the ongoing news surrounding the US and Canadian trade relations:
"LIUNA represents working people on both sides of the border. Our members build together, work together and stand together.
We are deeply concerned by escalating tariffs and trade disputes that threaten jobs, raise the cost of construction, and create uncertainty for working families and the industries that employ them. Workers should never become collateral damage in a political or trade fight.
LIUNA is one union across two nations, and our solidarity does not stop at the border.
No Premier, Governor, Senator, Member of Parliament, President, or Prime Minister will divide the 540,000 proud brothers and sisters of LIUNA. We must always put jobs over politics.
Politics may cross borders, but so does solidarity."
