“Nobody voted to have their job taken away. Nobody voted to say ‘you can have my job so I can fund a tax cut for millionaires and billionaires.’ Our members voted for their jobs.”
Washington, D.C. (June 12, 2025) —Brent Booker, General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), joined Representatives Nikki Budzinski and Seth Magaziner—Co-Chairs of the Building Trades Task Force—as well as Congressional Labor Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Steven Horsford and key labor leaders: Eric Dean, President of the Iron Workers, and Dean Warsh, Government Affairs Director for the IBEW- in a press conference to sound the alarm on what’s at stake for tens of thousands of workers across the country as the U.S. Senate considers the fate of clean energy tax credits.
When Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, it made a promise: to create tens of thousands of good jobs for a decade by investing in critical energy infrastructure. That promise is already being fulfilled—with projects underway that are powering communities and creating family-supporting jobs across America. Even more are on the horizon.
But all of that progress is now threatened by the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” tax legislation passed by the U.S. House. This legislation would eliminate good, blue-collar jobs to pay for trillions in tax breaks for the wealthy. If passed, it could jeopardize as many as 1.75 million construction jobs—equal to more than 3 billion hours of work.
In recent weeks, I’ve met with members of congress on both sides of the aisle. This isn’t a republican or democrat issue- this is a jobs issue. At the end of the day, this is about protecting union jobs. These are real jobs creating real opportunity for working-class people—from coast to coast, in both red and blue states, and in cities and small towns alike. These jobs pay for housing, groceries, and give life to local economies. Nobody voted to have their job taken away. Nobody voted to say ‘you can have my job so I can fund a tax cut for millionaire and billionaires.’ Our members voted for their jobs.
It’s now up to the U.S. Senate to stand with working people and keep the promise Congress made by restoring the clean energy tax credits—and protecting the future of America’s workforce.
