Passage of Six Years Since Keystone XL Pipeline First Proposed Underscores the Need to Take Politics Out of Nation’s Energy Future

Statement of LIUNA General President Terry O’Sullivan

Washington, D.C. (September 19, 2014) – Today marks six years since the Keystone XL Pipeline was first proposed. After numerous reviews, hearings and court filings, one fact remains crystal clear: the Keystone XL Pipeline is in the national interest and there is no environmental justification for blocking this jobs-creating, energy-producing pipeline. While the incomprehensible delays have not protected our environment, they are likely to nearly double the cost of the project.

It’s time to leave political calculations aside, stop grasping at any and all excuses for delay and unlock the jobs and energy the pipeline can provide.

LIUNA will continue to aggressively fight for America’s energy future, including the ultimate construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
