New Director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management

Washington, D.C. (January 10, 2023) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:

Thanks to the Biden Administration, Interior Department Secretary Deb Haaland, and the leadership of outgoing Director Amanda Lefton, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has spearheaded the creation of good jobs building our nation’s offshore wind capacity. LIUNA members are grateful for Amanda Lefton’s dedication and tireless efforts to encourage the offshore wind industry to commit to family-sustaining careers. She was integral to the landmark project labor agreement between Orsted and North America’s Building Trades Unions, as well as to the inclusion of labor standards in project leases awarded by the agency during her tenure.

LIUNA commends the BOEM for supporting good, family-supporting jobs and welcomes the new Director, Elizabeth Klein. The strong, proud, and united members of LIUNA look forward to working with Director Klein to continue to build the offshore wind industry with the highest of labor standards.
