Washington, D.C. (May 14, 2014) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement on the Obama Administration's release of a comprehensive plan to accelerate and expand permitting reform:
"We applaud the administration for their sense of urgency in permitting more than 50 major infrastructure projects over the past several years. After waiting more than 5 years for the approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline, we have seen how much bureaucratic red-tape can truly stifle our economy and harm working families. Thankfully, thousands of men and women of LIUNA are already hard at work on some of the new projects, helping to improve the safety of our roads and bridges for drivers all across the country. Now that we can get federal investment to such critically needed projects so quickly, we urge Congress to put a long-term highway bill on the fast-track toward passage this year, before thousands of additional projects that are still waiting for federal support get cut or delayed."
