Washington, D.C. (July 30, 2015) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today on the passage of a six-year Highway Bill in the U.S. Senate:

The passage of a long-term, six-year Highway Bill by the U.S. Senate shows that bipartisanship and putting America’s interest ahead of politics is still possible.

Senators McConnell, Inhofe and Boxer showed extraordinary leadership by moving a bipartisan bill that will make our roads and bridges safer, create good jobs and strengthen our economy. They are to be commended for putting differences aside, reaching a sound compromise and creating a rare breath of fresh air in the Capitol.

Now is the time for the U.S. House of Representatives to move forward on their vision for a long-term bill without further delaying tactics and short-term extensions. Congress must put politics aside and work together to make the crucial investment that our nation’s infrastructure so desperately needs.
