LIUNA General President Brent Booker Responds to Christmas Project Shutdown

"Stop Playing Politics with Our Jobs"

Washington, D.C. (December 23, 2025) - Yesterday the Trump administration announced suspension of work on critical offshore energy projects along the East Coast, including Vineyard Wind, Revolution Wind, Sunrise Wind, Empire Wind, and the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project. This action directly threatens the livelihoods of thousands of LIUNA members who work to create affordable, reliable power generation on the grid.

Brent Booker, General President of the Laborer’s International Union of North America issued the following statement:

LIUNA members plan their life around this work. Pulling the plug now — during the holidays and after years of negotiations and extensive reviews — is reckless and unfair to the men and women who build this country. This work was already well underway, with one project roughly 80% complete, and now thousands of people are left without a job days before Christmas.

This administration has shown a clear pattern of targeting offshore wind projects, and we demand transparency about the reasons behind these decisions. Canceling these projects puts real people out of work and destabilizes working families.

At LIUNA, we don’t ask for handouts. We ask for the opportunity to work. We call on federal leaders to reverse these suspensions, honor existing commitments, and respect American workers.

LIUNA’s message is clear: let us work — and stop playing politics with our jobs.
