LIUNA Congratulates Mayor Foxx on Nomination as Secretary of U.S. Department of Transportation

Washington, D.C. (April 30, 2013) – LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – congratulates Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx on his nomination to serve as the next U.S. Transportation Secretary.

“We applaud President Obama’s nomination of Anthony Foxx and look forward to working with him as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation,” said LIUNA General President Terry O’Sullivan. “As mayor, Foxx demonstrated an understanding of the need to rebuild urban transportation systems and how modern transportation can spark economic growth. As Transportation Secretary, we are confident he will help lead the effort to build and upgrade our nation’s transportation systems, creating good jobs and helping strengthen our economy.”

The challenge facing the U.S. is clear. According to the Report Card of the American Society of Civil Engineers, our aviation, roads and transit systems are in dire need, getting D grades. “Mayor Foxx can count on LIUNA to support transportation legislation that provides needed investment and he can count on the members of LIUNA to help build the most modern and reliable transportation systems in the world,” O’Sullivan said.
