LIUNA Applauds House Vote on Long-Term Transportation Bill

Washington, D.C. (November 5,2015) - Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today on passage of the Surface Transportation Reform and Reauthorization Act of 2015 in the U.S. House:

Today’s vote is a giant leap forward for investment in our nation’s roads and bridges. Congratulations to Chairman Shuster and Ranking Member DeFazio and all of the members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for working together to successfully bring the Surface Transportation Reform and Reauthorization Act of 2015 to the floor and win passage of this crucial legislation, which, if signed into law, will make our roads and bridges safer, and create good jobs.

I urge both chambers of Congress to put aside partisanship and come together in conference to produce a final bill with strong, sustainable investment. After more than thirty short-term extensions and another set to expire November 20, the time for delay and posturing has passed.
