LIUNA Applauds Enthusiasm for Infrastructure Investment, Stands Ready to Build America so America Works Again

Washington, D.C. (Jan. 24, 2017) – LIUNA General President Terry O’Sullivan made the following statement today regarding recent proposals for significant investment in the nation’s infrastructure:

We applaud the Trump Administration and Senate Democrats’ call for $1 trillion in infrastructure investment. After nearly a generation of neglect in addressing America’s failing critical infrastructure, it is very encouraging that both chambers of Congress and the White House are enthusiastically embracing the need to act.

The nation’s overall infrastructure merits a “D+” grade, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers, with actual investment needs of $3.6 trillion. The case for significant investment – such as the $1 trillion proposal put forth by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer – is very clear.

Investing in our roads, bridges, transit, water resources, energy projects and other fundamental infrastructure will help make America competitive in the world again, as well as, improving our safety and creating millions of desperately needed family-sustaining jobs.

We commend President Trump for his effective advocacy in kick-starting the momentum to address infrastructure needs, and all parties for moving forward. We believe we can work together in a bipartisan fashion to get infrastructure investment over the finish line. The half-million members of LIUNA stand ready to build America, so America works again.
