Washington, D.C. (December 11, 2025) — The Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) celebrates today’s decisive, bipartisan vote in the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550), restoring collective bargaining rights to more than one million federal workers.
The vote comes just days after a bipartisan discharge petition, driven by Representatives Jared Golden (ME-02) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), forced the bill to the floor. Today, members of both parties stood together to reject President Trump’s executive order that stripped union rights, canceled contracts, and silenced the voices of hundreds of thousands of federal employees, including thousands of LIUNA members who keep our nation running every day.
“This is a historic victory for federal workers and for every American who believes in fairness and freedom on the job,” said LIUNA General President Brent Booker. “LIUNA members know that union rights are essential to safe, dignified, middle-class work. Today’s bipartisan vote proves that standing up for workers is not and should never be a partisan issue. Federal workers deserve the same respect and the same right to collective bargaining as every other working person in this country.”
LIUNA urges the Senate to act swiftly to send this critical legislation to the President’s desk. Federal workers, many who we are proud to represent, have waited long enough for their voices to be restored and their rights to be respected.
