Construction Unemployment Rises, Washington Can Help

Washington, D.C. (March 7, 2014) – In response to the Bureau of Labor Statistics February jobs report showing the construction unemployment rate worsening to 12.8% from 12.3% in January, Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers' International Union of North America – made the following statement:

“Tens of thousands of unemployed construction workers would have a job right now if more officials in Washington took action. Our half-million highly-skilled LIUNA members are ready and willing to help fix our deteriorating transportation systems, to restore our waterways and to build our energy infrastructure. The cure to our unemployment ills is simple: approve the Keystone XL pipeline, pass a long-term Highway Bill and pass the  Water Resources Development Act. Each would put thousands of men and women to work on projects that benefit our entire nation.”
