Ban on Offshore Drilling—Another Bad Energy Proposal

Washington, D.C. (December 22, 2016) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement on the Obama Administration’s decision to bar offshore drilling in the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans:

Once again, the Obama Administration has put forward flawed energy policy at the behest of environmental extremists by announcing that he is removing key Arctic and Atlantic offshore areas from future leasing. Blocking offshore exploration means destroying good jobs. It also puts our national energy security at risk not to mention makes energy less affordable for consumers. I am hopeful that the incoming Administration will reverse this bad decision and instead focus on sound thoughtful energy policy that takes into consideration the men and women that work in the sector as well as the importance of America being energy independent and keeping energy affordable for families across America. LIUNA looks forward to working with the Trump Administration to reverse this and other regressive energy policies enacted by the outgoing President.
