EPA Proposal to Speed Up Removal of Toxic Lead Pipe Will Protect Americans and Create Jobs

Washington, D.C. (November 30, 2023) – Brent Booker, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:

Today’s proposal to remove all lead pipes from our nation’s drinking water in the next 10 years will accelerate the work that has already begun and keep Americans safe from toxic lead exposure. LIUNA commends the Biden Administration and EPA Assistant Administrator for the Office of Water Radhika Fox for leadership in protecting our drinking water.

LIUNA members are already working hard in many cities and municipalities across the nation to remove lead pipes and this new rule will help ensure this continues and expands.

The Administration’s commitment to creating good jobs with federal investment will help ensure that jobs created by these projects will be good-paying, family-supporting jobs.

LIUNA looks forward to working with the EPA and the Administration as the rule is finalized and implemented.
