Washington, D.C. (January 7, 2021) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today:

LIUNA congratulates Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock on their historic victory. The run-off election is a win for the people of Georgia and our entire nation. Both Senator-elects are champions for working men and women, and we will now hold a majority in Congress that along with President Biden can help propel an aggressive agenda to revitalize our economic well-being, create jobs, and restore union rights.

LIUNA members were on the frontlines in Georgia - organizing, mobilizing and voting. Their efforts and commitment to the trade union movement were a service to the entire union. On behalf of the half-million members of LIUNA and the entire General Executive Board, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and congratulations.

Despite the turmoil we have seen this week, the news from Georgia should be seen as a bellwether of brighter days ahead. We look forward to working with Senate-elect Ossoff and Senate-elect Warnock and the entire new Congress led by Speaker Pelosi, and Majority Leader Schumer. Together we will win a better, stronger economy for working people.
