No Jobs Report Today Due to Government Shutdown

Washington, D.C. (September 26, 2013) – On news that the U.S. Department of Labor will not  issue a jobs report this month due to the Republican  government shutdown, Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers' International Union of North America – issued the following statement:

“Unfortunately, the next jobs report out of the Labor Department could show a loss of jobs in key industries due to the Republican government shutdown. Thousands of LIUNA workers in the National Guard, Indian Health Services and other federal programs have already been furloughed, limiting their ability to provide for their families. The indirect impact of the shutdown is likely to ripple through the construction sector and other industries, throwing more men and women out of work. These workers are the taxpayers who are paying Congress to do their jobs. It is time for Congress to pass legislation ending the shutdown.”
