Washington, D.C. (December 2, 2015) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today on Secretary Clinton’s infrastructure proposal announcement:
We applaud Secretary Clinton’s focus on significant new investment in our nation’s critical infrastructure and for making it front and center in the Presidential campaign. As she points out, investing in our nation’s roads, bridges, transit and other fundamentals is a key to economic growth, public safety, creating good jobs and rebuilding the middle class.
Her plan is realistic and thoughtful and is a solid down-payment on the country’s needs, which, due to years of neglect is now estimated to total trillions of dollars, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers.
With her proposal and leadership, Secretary Clinton has shown that she has the political will to address the dire state of America’s infrastructure. The hard-working, skilled men and women of LIUNA stand ready, willing and able to get to work rebuilding the transportation systems and other critical infrastructure we all rely on every day.
The half-million members of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – are on the forefront of the construction industry, a powerhouse of workers who are proud to build America.
