LIUNA Calls for Swift Action on Water Resources Bill

“Congress should get a final version for the President to sign into law as quickly as possible.”

Washington, D.C. (October 23, 2013) – Responding to the House of Representatives’ long-awaited passage of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act, today, Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers' International Union of North America – issued the following call for swift action to turn this legislation into law:

“I applaud members of the House of Representatives for cooperating in true bipartisan fashion to pass the Water Resources Reform and Development Act, which will help strengthen our nation’s competitiveness across a wide sector of the economy by improving maritime transportation options, creating needed jobs in the construction sector and protecting families living in communities at-risk of floods. Once enacted, these long overdue reforms will authorize urgently needed investments in our nation’s lock and dam infrastructure, upgrade deficient levees and maintain our ports, harbors and other key navigation channels.

“We urge the Congress to quickly convene a conference committee to work out any differences between their respective bills in a timely manner. Congress should get a final version for the President to sign into law as quickly as possible.”
