Washington, D.C. (May 4, 2015) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today on the introduction of the Move America Act:

LIUNA applauds Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and John Hoeven (R-ND) for introducing this bipartisan legislation and urges the enactment of this important bill.

 

America’s roads, bridges and transit systems are in dangerous disrepair and it will be impossible to bring our transportation systems to an acceptable condition without a strong and reliable federal role, which is why the ongoing effort to pass a long-term, full-investment Highway Bill is so critical.

 

The bipartisan Move America Act can be a piece of the puzzle that puts our roads, bridges and transit systems back together again. Using tax-exempt bonds to attract private investment can complement existing public investment.
