LiUNA Builds America

LiUNA is doing an aggressive direct mail and radio campaign to quickly educate residents why the City should use Community Partnership Agreements on projects over $5million. Hundreds of our members are among the 11 percent of those who are unemployeed in the City of Baltimore.

Audio "There oughta be a law?"

You know the saying “there oughta be a law?” Well here’s one. When companies that get millions in tax breaks from Baltimore City have a job to do – like fix a road or bridge, build a sidewalk – those companies should hire Baltimore workers, right? Wrong.

Right now, they hire workers from outside the city or state, because they can pay them less, and take those jobs and dollars away from Baltimore. Make sense to you?

Here’s worse: the City just gives hundreds of millions in tax breaks and contracts to developers who regularly use workers from outside Baltimore. WHAT? While City unemployment rates are sky high, and we’re trying to build jobs with living wages and health care – they’re sending our jobs and our tax dollars out of state.

There oughta be a law. Call your city council member. Tell them city construction jobs should go to city workers. Paid for by the Mid Atlantic Regional Organizing Coalition.
