Retiree Mission

As LIUNA enters the 21st century, it is faced with new challanges. Perhaps one of the greatest challenges and opportunities will be responding to the needs of retirees and those active members entering retirement. Having dedicated so much of their life, time and energy to the success of this great International Union during their tenure as working members, retirees deserve nothing less than the total commitment and support of LIUNA and its affiliates.
Retirees are one of LIUNA's greatest assets and they make significant contributions to LIUNA's political, legislative and organizing goals. Retirees have also proven invaluable to mentoring and new member orientation programs. We therefore strongly encourage the formation of local Retiree Councils. Retiree Councils provide a collective forum by which LIUNA can maximize the potential of its retired members while at the same time address retirees specific needs and concerns. It is through cooperative efforts at the Local, Regional, and International levels that LIUNA can best serve its retired members.

To this end, LIUNA has established a National Retiree Council, which is comprised of prominent retired members who were appointed from each Region. In addition to serving as liaisons to existing local Retiree Councils and affiliates, the National Retiree Council will work to build coalitions the Alliance for Retired Americans and other organizations that support those issues most important to union retirees.

As leaders of this great International Union it is incumbent upon each of us to recognize and develop the potential that is our retired members.
