What is the Training Center?

The Alberta Labourers’ Training Trust Fund is a trust fund set up by the Labourers’ International Union of North America and our signatory contractors. The Training Centre in Calgary was set up to provide union members with the training they need to fulfill the needs of signatory contractors in Southern Alberta.

The Alberta Labourers’ Training Trust Fund provides courses needed to gain certification in the CCL occupation as well as safety and skills courses at no charge to union members in good standing. This is a win-win opportunity for all.

How do I take courses?

If you are a member in good standing, call the Training Centre to register for courses. You will need to confirm your attendance by phone at least 2 business days prior to the course start date. If you do not call or the Training Center cannot contact you to confirm, you will lose your seat in the course.

What if I can’t make the course?

If you cannot make the course you are registered for, call to cancel at least 2 business days in advance. The Training Center has a No-Show policy in effect. If you register for a course and do not cancel at least 2 business days prior to the start of the course you will be required to bring a $100.00 deposit before registering for any other course with the Training Center. If you register and don’t show up for that class, the Training Trust Fund will keep the $100.00 and you will be required to bring another $100.00 the next time you want to register for a course. This will be in effect for 3 years from the last no show date.

When are courses scheduled?

The Training Center publishes a course calendar on the first business day of each month. They are sent out to all current members of Local 1111, but are also available at the local office, or can be mailed to you by phone request.

You can also call the Training Centre to find out the current course schedule at (403)243-8899. Not all courses are available at all times. Courses are put on as interest rises to allow for full classes.

Can I be reimbursed for courses I've paid for myself?

Sometimes. If you are in a circumstance where you may need to pay for a course, you MUST call ahead to the training center to get approval for reimbursement. The training center does NOT automatically reimburse for any and all courses you've taken.
