Fabcon Update
We are happy to report that on May 13th, 2010, the 69 workers at Fabcon, Inc. plant in Savage, MN voted to end the six week strike at the concrete panel manufacturing plant.
On April 5, 2010 the workers voted to go on strike in response to management's demand that they give up what is estimated to be as much as 30% of their wages.
The workers at Fabcon are regularly scheduled to work long hours including on Saturdays and Sundays.  The company's last best and final offer to the workers on March 26, 2010 included language that would eliminate the pay differentials for weekend work.  In the Settlement reached between Construction and General Laborers' Local 563 and Fabcon, Inc. the Employer withdrew its proposal that would eliminate overtime pay for weekend work.
"The Laborers Union is so proud of these courageous members who stood out on the picket line for six weeks to prove to Fabcon that they were strong enough to say "no" to the company's demands," said Tim Mackey, Business Manager, "This is a victory for the workers and for the Union".
The workers returned to work on Friday, May 14th. "A strike is hard on everyone, but we are going to move forward and work toward improving labor-management relations with Fabcon," said Tim Mackey, "but most importantly now, our skilled, trained members will be getting back to building the high quality construction materials that has made Fabcon successful."
Thank you to everyone who made a donation to the Strike Fund, and for all your support during the six week strike!
